11 Nabbed four short flukes at Jones Inlet this afternoon during the flood time. The largest was 16 1/2". Caught everything on spearings and killies I had trapped at Seaman's Neck Park. Also put squid strips on the hook. Saw only one keeper fluke caught, and more than a dozen shorts. Also plenty of sea robins in the mix.

2 | 3 Tried to net baitfish on north and south shores, Cold Spring Harbor and Seaford. Spearings are still too small to use to catch keepr fluke. It's going to be another three weeks before the get big enough.

8 | 9 A day of big fish. Saw a 9 to 10 pound weakfish caught at Jones Inlet. First weakie I've seen in a few years, and it was huge. 12 Too close for comfort. Nailed a 17 1/2" fluke, not a fraction over. Another line slinger nabbed an 18" fluke on the flood tide at Jones Inlet. My keeper was caught on the ebb.
13 | 14 Caught my third keeper fluke of the year at Jones Inlet. This one stretched to 17 3/4" and caught it on spearings at the top of the flood. It was the only keeper I saw caught during three hours of fishing. Plenty, and I mean plenty, of short flukes, anywhere from 14" to 16 1/2."
15 Only short flukes were caught by everyone fishing Jones Inlet today. I caught nine shorties. I looked to my left and right and saw plenty of other shorties caught.

19 | 20 Short, short, short, one short fluke after another at Jones Inlet. This time, there were more shorter than usual. Most of the throwbacks stretched out between 13" and 14." Actually caught a fluke 15", put up a good fight, I thought at first it was going to be a keeper.
21 | 22 Caught a few small blue claw crabs at Wantagh Park, and a few green crabs. Saw only a couple of good size blue claws trapped by the half-dozen crabbers there in the late morning and early afternoon.
23 Everything but blue claw crabs. Trapped two dozen plus of green crabs, a few spider crabs, and even a hermit crab at Seaman's Neck Park, but no blue claws.
24 Within 15 minutes of dropping two crab traps at John J. Burns Park in Massapequa, nabbed two blue claw crabs. One was a monster, the other smaller, but still big and meaty.
25 Saw only a couple of big blue claw crabs picked up at Lindenhurst Town Dock on Wellwood Avenue. Those monsters were caught at 1:30 p.m., earlier in the morning, it was slow pickings with most crabbers trapping nothing.
26 | 27 Crabs were jammed packed at jones inlet. Ended catching two short flukes, largest 16 1/2," but spent most of my time rebaiting my hooks because the crabs were swiping it almost the second it hit the bottom.
28 Almost hit the 17 1/2" magic mark with one fluke, but it fell short by a fraction of an inch. Total, nabbed nine short flukes, and one sea robin at Jones Inlet. The 17" plus fluke was the largest one caught, the others were mostly 15."
29 Trapped three keeper size blue claw crabs at John J. Burns Park in Massapequa. Also caught more than a dozen small ones. So far, best crabbing day of the year. Used chicken legs to lure them into the cage.
